Dear Friend of The Claremont Forum,

We have served the Claremont community and much of southern California as a non-profit for over 25 years. However, we now face very challenging times and we count on you to help us fulfill our missions.

Our first mission, the Prison Library Project (PLP), continues to bring hope and intellectual stimulation to men and women who are incarcerated. Our dedicated volunteers read and respond to over 1000 letters from inmates a month - selecting books and wrapping packages. Recently, a group at Pitzer College asked for help starting a library at a juvenile facility in LaVerne.

We continue to make an impact in prisoners’ lives. A volunteer, who was working in the Thoreau Bookshop, told us about a man who came in to ask for the Prison Library Project.  He was told, “We’re right here.”  With tears in his eyes, he said the books he had received from the PLP had saved him while he was in prison and had helped him start a new life when he was released.  He just wanted to say thank you.

Our second mission is to enhance the health and well being of the community.  We sponsor the Sunday Farmers & Artisans Market – offering healthy, organic, fresh food and beautiful crafts from our local artisans as well as the Friday Night Green Market to promote environmental awareness.  We offer weekday classes in language, dance, discussion groups, writers’ workshops and thought-provoking documentaries. We also host numerous community art exhibits, concerts, workshops and beloved annual shows such as Postmarked and the Gypsy Sisters that also provide much needed revenue for the PLP.

Please visit our website at www.claremontforum.org for in-depth information about our programs.  You can sign up to receive our weekly email updates about our upcoming events. We are now community partners with Amazon.com so you can order books, magazines and software online – and we receive a donation from Amazon for every order!

Donate your used books to us! Office hours at our bookstore are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Saturday and we provide donation receipts as we are a 501(c)(3) organization and your books and financial contributions are tax deductible. Revenue from our book sales provides funds for mailing books to inmates.

These missions take much coordination and we are grateful beyond words for the dedicated volunteers who make them possible.   We ask for your help today to send a donation so that we may continue to bring hope to prisoners through reading material and health, intellectual and aesthetic stimulation to the community.

Thank you for your loyalty and support!
